Bethany, OK — Clay Healey announced his purchase of Oklahoma Aviation LLC from founder Tom Kilpatrick. The terms were not disclosed. Healey, owner of Oklahoma City-based Aviation Title Service, explained his reasons for buying the flight school.
"I have been associated with aviation my entire life," said Healey. "The success of my aviation title company — AIC Title Service LLC — convinced me that a vertically-integrated aviation services organization will go farther than two unrelated companies. Both are doing extremely well, but the synergy will lead to greater opportunities for both."
Healey is a private pilot and airplane owner who first found Oklahoma Aviation while searching for a flight school and instructor. He quipped, "Like Victor Kiam who bought Remington Products in 1979, 'I liked it so much, I bought the company.'"
Kilpatrick characterized the sale as a logical step in the company's evolution. "Three years ago, central Oklahoma flight schools were built around an outdated business model that involved old airplanes and 'ground schools.' People who considered learning to fly didn't like the product, and never pursued their dreams. Oklahoma Aviation changed that. The business model obviously worked — we experienced uninterrupted growth since we opened, and almost all of our competitors have closed."
"Clay will do well," said Kilpatrick. "He's a pilot, airplane owner, industry professional, and has the drive and ability to take the company to the next level."
Healey has plans to expand into several areas including sales, maintenance and charter.
Oklahoma Aviation is Oklahoma's only Cessna Pilot Center, operates the newest fleet of instructional and rental aircraft in the state, and is based at Wiley Post Airport.
